Toyota says it is applying its mobility and manufacturing technologies to developing ‘Toyota Partner Robots’ to support people in their daily lives and to ‘help create a healthy and comfortable society in the future’. Toyota Partner Robots first performed at the Toyota Group Pavilion during the 2005 World Exposition in Aichi. Since then, Toyota has focused on the four areas in which it believes robots can be of the most use to humans: domestic duties, nursing and medical care, manufacturing, and short-distance personal transport.

Honda has also invested in creating autonomously mobile robots for functions other than static manufacturing tasks, with successive generations of its Asimo robot.
