Cognex software speeds deployment of vision guided robots
Natick, MA, August 8, 2006 - Cognex announced In-Sight® Explorer software release 3.3 for its award-winning In-Sight vision sensors. The software includes new calibration, communication, and other tools that minimize integration time when deploying vision in robotic guidance and inspection applications, and makes In-Sight the best vision sensor in the industry for industrial robotics. The new software includes:
• Non-linear calibration which improves repeatability by correcting for lens and perspective distortion
• Robot drivers and sample code to facilitate tight, seamless integration
• PatMax to accurately and reliably locate unfixtured parts

“Guiding robots with machine vision eliminates costly precision fixturing and allows production lines to process multiple products without tooling changeover,” said Kris Nelson, Cognex Senior Vice President, Vision Sensors. “Now it’s faster than ever to integrate In-Sight vision sensors on virtually every robot platform, giving system integrators the flexibility to use world-class vision tools for part location, identification, inspection and measurement on their robot of choice.“

In-Sight Explorer 3.3 is available on a broad range of IP67-rated hardware platforms. From standard to high-resolution models, all In-Sight vision sensors are available with high-flex cables designed for robotic applications. For end-of-arm mounting in light payload applications or wherever space is limited, the recently released In-Sight 5400R vision sensor offers a compact, remote-head camera. All In-Sight vision sensor models include a powerful library of vision software that assures reliable performance in the most challenging two-dimensional robotic guidance and inspection applications.

In-Sight Explorer 3.3 is available now.
