Unibot, a robot unicycle, maintains its balance automatically despite spinning around on just a single wheel. Combining the principles of the "famous wheeled inverted pendulum and the inertia wheel pendulum," it uses a similar technique to the Segway in order to stay right-way up. A large secondary wheel whirls on a plane perpendicular to that covered by the small, surface-touching wheel — its larger size and weight, presumably, make up for the fact that the only thing it touches is air. Such necessary compromises notwithstanding, it's a damn shame the big wheel isn't a ginormous circular saw. Throw in a remote control unit, and you have the ultimate toy for trade show floors.
